It’s been wonderful weather full of sunshine and blessings for the exterior painting. I started on the north side of the studio building! This may take some time to complete, but it sure is nice to be outdoors in mid February. The color is going to be great. I just can’t resist opening with a pink door! Reminds me of Audrey Hepburn.

Loving the new hand built duct work ! The company cold air returns are going to be added bonus for the furnace. Fun times on a small platform. While Harry is working on the furnace installation I am scraping the floor’s and caulking the exterior windows and getting ready to paint the front door.
Harry Anderson the maestro is at it today! We had to take a break from the floor cleaning to get the furnace up and installed. For now it’s going to be on a propane system. We are waiting for the mud to dry up outside. Solar setup and utility room is going to begin when the snow is gone and the ground is dry.

Rain Under varnish, pigment on wood panel 20”x20” Another bit of wonderful news! Thank you James in Colorado Springs for adding this to your private collection! It is thrilling to be to this stage! Sweeping the construction debris. It’s chilly outside. The winter winds are blowing and the snow is swirling. Yet the interior of the studio stays above freeze due to those south exposure windows. We are currently washing the floor and prepping for the clear coat.
Clean up progressing nicely! Amazing how much there is to do. The initial sweep is the start of the floor finishing work.
Time for the clean up and removal of the construction debris. Work tables with wheels is very exciting. Work sinks are hooked up! Next is the heater and solar panels. Right now we are powered by the orange and green extension cord running to the main house. More exciting developments are around the corner.
Thank you to my private collectors in Toronto, Canada! Mr. had called me and wanted to buy a special painting for his wife for Valentine’s Day. He explained what a lovely wife he has and he wanted something extra special for her. You see, he explained he had not been listening to his wife lately. So he thought long and hard. Finally Mr. asked his wife if he could get something to represent the importance of listening to her and each other. They decided together to buy a painting for their home that would be a symbol of listening and understanding.
With great joy in my heart, they contacted me! Happy Valentines Day to Mr. and Mrs. private collectors in Toronto Canada! May the painting fill both of you with joy and happiness for years to come. It’s time to look at color! Winter greys will lead to spring festival of colors. It’s right around the corner.
Drips down Fiberglass, varnish, pigment 7’x3’ The subway tile around the work sink is looking magnificent. As well the tile around the bathroom sink is going to be wonderful and white. The windows are all trimmed and caulked in place. I am working on priming them. Soon the interior is done! Cleaning the construction mess off the floor should be underway in the next week or so. Currently the studio is receiving power by way of a long extension cord plugged into the big house. It’s a seriously long extension cord! Stay tuned for the exterior setup....
Taking a small break from construction to enjoy the view. I can’t wait to unpack my boxes and get the studio setup for working. The images I posted today are from the large scale wall I built 10 years ago.
Over the river over and through the woods fiberglass, varnish, pigment and welding steel. 8’x15’ Reminiscent of the sliding walls in Zen temples. I painted and built a large scale prototype. It’s 8 foot tall and 15foot in length. There are 4 sliding panels or doors that are hung from an overhead beam. The scene and colors are inspired from the spring time when the light and colors shift from winter to spring in northern Michigan. The action of moving the panels and walking through is reminiscent of a visit to the woods. My favorite park for viewing the spring awakening is Amen Park , Michigan. There one can find an abundance of wild flowers and blossoming trees from mid April to May. Thanks to my friend Betsy for the glamorshot. Note- this piece will be a part of the first installation project upcoming! Stay tuned for more excellent news. wow. I never thought that I could be considered courageous for building my studio in a rural setting. What a great compliment from @vandyker! We are having such a nice time here. Walter, the mountain lion loves to hike the trails nearby. And the three little bears tumbling and giggling are so cute. The flocks of turkeys, blue birds, crows, and other birds are abundant. Bunny the Cottontail loves to hop to and nibble on the grassy areas. Occasionally we see a magestic bald eagle. Of course the red tail hawks are always on the hunt. Our greenhouse has a nice herd of lizards and frogs. Life is slow here. It’s finally Time to rejuvenate and be at peace. Eternally grateful for this amazing life.
Friends from all over the world showing their love and support! This has been a long haul. We really appreciate the words of encouragement. Thank you @mslauraarmenta from Michigan.
We are ripping the baseboard trim and priming. We just finished caulking in all 14 windows. 8 tubes of caulk sealed the interior trim. It’s been snowing a lot lately so the roads are too muddy for walking. Nice beautiful sunny day for warming up the studio and drying up the road.
Harry is hanging 4 LED lights at the four corners of the studio. T’Alyne is caulking the windows and priming the wood trim on all the windows and doors.Great sunny day for the solar heat gain through the south windows.
Today is a beautiful sunny winter day in the mountains. Windy but warm. Just the other side of the mountain range is a snow storm. It’s nice inside the studio for getting the details done. We are working on the counter top and back splash of the work sinks.
Thank you from the mountain top! Rememberng the help we had pushing up this wall! The video clip on YouTube is another inspirational moment during the construction. Click to view. its amazing and so nice to receive positive feedback from viewers, Thank you @busybecca for sharing the news and your supportive message. We love hear from you!
We are mindful of our budget at every moment. Harry is ripping down the 4x8 sheets for the window trim.
We have the studio all wired. Plumbing is complete with 3 work sinks. Bathroom sink and toilet plumbing are completely done.
We are so lucky we have a friend with a big trailer! It took the full trailer plus a load in the back of the pickup. Drive time was two hours to Home Depot for pickup and return of materials. R-19 in the walls and ceiling. This will help keep the building and art supplies warm in the winter. Our planned heat source is going to be either solar powered electric base board or solar hot water baseboard.
The metal roof installation was fast! Wonderful series of progress shots. Thank you to Toby and Harry for the installation hard work. There were no slips as the roof is at a low pitch. Solar gain will be perfect with the excellent Southern exposure and roof angle. Exterior button up and interior electrical work by Harry Anderson. Window installation was a breeze for Harry. Many thanks to Doug French, soybean farmer in Kansas for donating 5 of the stationary horizontal windows. We re-purposed several sets of french-doors to create the large stationary windows. These will be great for heat gain during the winter months when the directional level of the sunlight is low. T'Alyne will be utilizing these upper windows to play with the natural light during studio production. The corner windows are all double high efficiency and perfectly situated to utilize good air-flow throughout the working space. Solar panels will be situated on the metal roof top. It is so exciting to watch the sunrise and set in this studio location! More amazing views and hikes upcoming. In the meantime, the walls went up quickly. Harry and a troop of men met to hoist heavy 2"x10ft stud-walls.
Perspective on progress. Click here to check out this YouTube video of the excavation of the site. Click here to view the YouTube Video of one of the largest walls being hoisted. Its a fun one to watch. Enjoy. Trusses were delivered on an extra long flat bed. We are compiling video clips for the movie! Stay tuned. Enjoy this construction update. |
